7:00 PM – Le Donne Della Resistenza
Director: Anthony Sarracco
An original TLN production
Le Donne Della Resistenza explores the essential roles played by Italian women during World War II, challenging traditional narratives of the conflict. During the turbulent summer of 1943, Italy found itself at a crossroads, struggling to break free from the grip of fascism. From this pivotal period emerged a group of remarkable women, whose daily acts of bravery would go on to change the course of the war.
The film offers an intimate look through the testimonies of the last surviving Italian-Canadian partisans, as they recall their collaboration with Canadian troops and recount their often-overlooked contributions to the liberation effort. Engaged in actions ranging from anti-fascist propaganda to frontline combat, these women played a decisive role in inflicting significant losses on the German army.
Through personal stories, archival footage, and expert analysis, the film pays tribute to these fierce women, who became an undeniable force and a valuable asset to the Allied forces, despite being perceived as less threatening.
7:50 PM – Italiani Dimenticati: The Giuliano-Dalmatian Community in Canada
Director: Sean Cisterna
An original TLN production
Italiani Dimenticati: La Comunità Giuliano-Dalmata in Canada sheds light on the little-known journey of the Giuliano-Dalmatian community — ethnic Italians from Julian Venetia, Istria, Dalmatia, and parts of present-day Slovenia and Croatia, who were exiled after World War II.
At the end of the conflict in 1945, the newly formed Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia annexed these territories, leading to the persecution of Italian-speaking communities, who were seen as remnants of the fascist regime. Subjected to forced assimilation, the confiscation of their property, and the horrors of the Foibe massacres—in which thousands perished—many sought refuge abroad, particularly in Canada, where they rebuilt their lives and left a lasting mark on the country’s cultural landscape.
Blending archival footage, personal testimonies, and historical analysis, this documentary is a moving tribute to the deep cultural identity of this community and its indomitable spirit.
